Fan-tastical Fan Art / Picture Edits

Fan-tastical Art
Or, some assorted fanarts I've made

So, I know I've not updated my blog in quite a while. But, well, it's not meant to be a comprehensive summary of my life. So I'm just going to go ahead and get to the point of my current blogging endeavor and skip over the life-summary stuff I keep trying to do that sometimes actually pushes me away from actually posting on this blog of mine.
I don't often make fanart, but once in a while I find myself moved to do so. My fanart is certainly not the best on the internet, but a lot of times the stuff I make fanart for is the stuff that there's not much fanart to be found for--especially since, when I want fanart for other stuff, I'll just find things made by other people. Of course, that's not exclusively true, because sometimes I'll have an inspiration for something relatively mainstream. Anyways, I don't necessarily spend hours making it perfect, either; usually my goal is just to get a concept across, more or less. So, mayhap you're a fan of some relatively obscure things like I am, and you'll stumble onto this and enjoy some of the relatively scarce art for whatever subject it is you like. Or, maybe you'll even like a thing I've made for a more popular fandom, but those are more likely to get buried in the vast seas of the internet. I know tumblr and deviantart are probably places people are more likely to look for these things, but, well, I don't want to go too crazy with making internet profiles I almost never use, so for now I think sharing these things here will suffice. These aren't necessarily in chronological order, but I just sort of went through some folders to see what older stuff I had first before putting in the newer stuff that I specifically had in mind when I started this blog post. So, anyways, here goes, and I hope someone will find these and enjoy them!

Note: I attempted to make my pictures as big as possible in order to make them clearer, but given my current rather narrow blog theme, this may mean that you'll need to click on and enlarge them in order to see the whole thing. For example, the picture below is indeed of both the Doctor and the Master, not just of the Doctor alone--you just have to click on it to see the whole thing.

I made this one quite some time ago. Basically, it was a picture of David Tennant and John Simm in costume with Russel T. Davies in the middle, and I looked at it and thought "hey, that could be a great picture of the Doctor with the Master as his companion!" and so I took a bit of the Tardis console and stuck it over where RTD was standing. I've long been intrigued by the Doctor and the Master's long-ago friendship, and I love the thought of what it would be like if the Master could've been the Doctor's companion, like the Doctor's offered him, more than once. I think I shared this picture on a Doctor Who page on facebook at some point, but anyways, I was looking through my files for things I've edited and I saw this one, so here it is. The Tardis console is perhaps a smidge sloppily pasted on, but I really quite like it anyways.

This one and a few other picture edits originated partly because I was reading this fanfiction (which I never really finished, actually) where Neal was still around when Emma had Henry and she wasn't in prison and they raised him together, which, while it wouldn't work for the series, was a very sweet idea. So, I suddenly really wanted Neal to be there in the hospital scene, and this is one of the edits I made. As you can see, I basically took a pic of Emma in the hospital and stuck a pic of Neal from the convenience store on top of it. Then I tried to smooth out the wall behind them/the edge of the bed so it looked a little better, but that bit still looks really weird and choppy. But, oh well, I still feel like it's a rather sweet moment.

I know, this one's really, really a bad edit. But it was so hard to get both of them smiling in one pic, since all the shots of Emma smiling at Henry (from the AU Regina created, which really should've had Neal in it, as there was literally no reason for him to be sent to the enchanted forest with everyone else since he was never even part of the curse in the first place and it was ridiculously contrived... but anyways, rant for another day) so anyway, I really just wanted them smiling together, since, as you can probably see, the first edit above isn't super smiley (though I think I did this one first, actually). So, yeah, it's not a good edit, but they're smiling.

Oh, gosh, I'd forgotten about this one. I did it ages ago, really, when I was feeling just generally displeased with Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time (where his real name is Killian Jones). The original kitten pic was captioned "fear me landlubber, dead men tell no tales" and literally all I did was stick my text on top of that. It's a really cute pic.

I didn't make this pic, so don't get too excited. It's just that the background of it was transparent, and I really wanted to use it as a screensaver, so I picked a shade of blue and made a background for it so it wouldn't be on just plain white or black. So, the art here is the perfect shade of screensaver blue I endeavored to find as a background to this pic.

Random suggestion picture I made. IDK, I just want the Doctor to be ginger. Also this is a lovely picture of Rupert Grint.

Interesting, I guess I hadn't finished the other one. IDK if I feel like finishing it now though, or if I even really agree with these statements I made anymore. Well, I'll just stick the pieces of this next one up here.

I guess I was still fiddling with the colors and the spacing of the captions. Huh, that was really a while ago. Certainly before I knew the Master (spoilers, maybe?) became a Time Lady. (I still haven't seen those episodes yet, but the internet has informed me about this change.) Well, let's see, according to the screenshot I used for the caption on the Rupert Grint pic, it was February 18, 2015. Screenshot dates are nifty. Yeah, those last few aren't even really fanart, I just had them in my edits folder, so I threw them up here.

This is possibly my best Swanfire fanart, actually. Partly because it was simple enough it worked out pretty well even with my relatively simple editing techniques--other than the flat spot on top of Neal's head, I'd say it's pretty much exactly what I wanted it to look like. Basically, this is another one of my Neal-should've-been-part-of-the-happy-year pics, because he should've been there with Emma happily raising Henry as part of Regina's fix-it curse. There's no reason he shouldn't've been. Of course, I understand that that would've messed with the Walsh thing, but too bad. Of course, now knowing what I know about Walsh--well, poor Walsh, I did sort of like him by the end. But he could find someone else. Emma and Neal need this happy time together. So, basically, the idea of this pic is just that Emma and Henry are just so engrossed in their video game that they didn't even hear Neal come in, getting home with dinner or coffee or whatever he went out for (hence the cup in his hand. The Neal pic is taken from the amusement park scene with Emma and Neal.) Yeah, I quite like this one.

So, now to the somewhat more recent stuff that brought me here today.

When I say recent, not all of these are actually recent, but they're the things that I specifically remembered making and didn't just search around in a folder of my edits and find. Thus, I'll begin with probably the ones from longest ago, I think.

So, let's kick this off with a bit of Luna and Rolf! As you've probably heard, a while ago, a new Harry Potter universe movie was announced--Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the faux textbook. Like all Harry Potter fans, I was quite excited at the prospect of returning to the Harry Potter Universe, but I was particularly excited about this because I'm a huge Luna Lovegood fan. Thus, the movie announcement was particularly exciting for me, as it will feature Newt Scamander, the grandfather of Luna's husband, Rolf Scamander. So, I went ahead and assumed that Newt and Rolf look a good bit alike, and, taking the announcement that Eddie Redmayne will be playing Newt and running with it, I went ahead and tried making some Luna/Rolf fanart, using Eddie Redmayne as Rolf. The above is my first attempt at this. It's not great, but it's basically just young Luna and Rolf walking together in the woods. They were supposed to be looking at each other, but the sillies have their eyes at the wrong angles. Oh, well.

So, next I found these pics of Evanna Lynch (Luna) and Eddie/"Rolf" sitting in sort of a similar position, and so I tried to make them sit on the beach next to each other. Their legs are awkwardly cut off and they're pretty small in relation to the rest of the pic, but hey, it's getting closer.

The two of them weren't very clear in that pic, though, so I went ahead and made them a bit disproportionately large to the background, and for whatever reason I switched which side they were sitting on. Also, as you can see, it's a different beach pic. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find pictures of a beach from the water like these two, actually. I was, when I was making these edits. You'd think it'd be a common enough shot, but finding it at the right angle to show two people sitting on a shore like that is really rather tricky. So, yep, Luna and Rolf on a beach together.

Then they went to the Yule Ball together! This one is on a stock background of the Yule Ball I found somewhere, with a pic of Luna and Harry going to the slug club party, actually, I believe (if I'm remembering right), and then I took Rolf's head from a pic of Eddie actually in one of the official Newt picture releases and stuck it over top of Harry's head. It doesn't have exactly the right angle, but it sort of works. But yeah, Luna and Rolf non-cannonically attending the Yule Ball together--I like it for that.

Then wedding pictures started happening. I found Evanna in this splendid dress, and there were all these pics of Eddie in suits, and so those just kind of leant themselves to wedding pictures. I thought that this background was beautiful and sort of fit with the lighting on her hair, but it's awkward because she doesn't have anything to lean on (well, except that I kept a bit of the railings from the original pic, but then there's just railings floating randomly in the forest).

So, I chanced upon this perfect tree, which also happened to have the perfect lighting, and was just generally brilliant. But, now Rolf is just standing there looking at Luna, and I wanted to get him in there by her.

And it all built up to this, my favorite Luna/Rolf fanart (or fan-edit or whatever you want to call it). It's not perfect, but I still really love this one. I went back and got a higher resolution version of the tree pic so that everything would be clearer and crisper. The angle of the pic of Eddie was awkward, so I had him stand in the tree so it would look slightly less awkward--it was kind of a picture of him from a bit above, so when I put him on flat ground it made him look like he was leaning weirdly, but it looks better when he's in the tree. Also, I thought that that did seem quite appropriate for Luna Lovegood's wedding pictures--because having her husband-to-be in a turquoise suit standing in a tree in their wedding pictures is 100% something Luna would do. The only problem with it, then, is that her husband Rolf is in the vibrant suit and Luna's in a comparatively normal-looking wedding dress, standing on the ground in a relatively normal pose. Well, anyways, it figures that Luna would pick someone as quirky and awesome as she is, so since we don't know much of anything about Rolf except that he's a magizoologist like his granddad, it makes sense to assume that he's just as fun and funky as Luna. The only thing, then, is that the wedding pic doesn't properly showcase her epicness, but it's just such a lovely dress, I left this one be. Luna Lovegood Scamander and her husband Rolf, everyone. They are amazing.

So, this next series is much more tongue-in-cheek than the ones before it. I've been watching Classic Doctor Who lately (out of order), and just the other day (this series is my most recent fan-editing adventure) I watched the Eighth Doctor's 1996 TV Movie. In it, I couldn't help but notice how it kept being pointed out how much the Tardis liked Chang Lee--the Master was specifically able to take advantage of the fact that the Tardis was willing to do things for Chang Lee that it didn't normally do for people, like how she opened the doors so easily for him and everything. So, well, I remembered the 11th Doctor episode where the Tardis is temporarily in a human body, and, so, well, this happened.
Fangirls and fanboys, I present to you, Chang Lee and the Tardis. It was just an amusing thought, and these fanart things of mine just kind of happened. Just some silly fun. In a way, they're sort of a weirdly cute couple.

It was good editing practice, you could say. I think I am getting better, at least compared to floating-smile-head Neal back towards the top of this post.

Chang Lee looks about as puzzled by this as I am.
Also, his wondrously fluffy hair is really hard to capture in edits like this; I'm afraid most of it got cut off in the above, so it looks like he got a hair cut.

But yeah, Chang Lee and the Tardis, it's a thing now. I didn't mean to randomly start a ship, but there you go. At least, I think I started this, IDK, maybe someone's already done some things like this. If so, please comment here. To be fair, they really talk about how much the Tardis likes Chang Lee a lot, and she rarely likes anyone--like, she really dislikes Clara and everything--so, it does come from somewhere. Of course, she liked Rory, too. But Rory and Amy 5ever. Enough said.

So, I'm certainly not the most prolific fanartist, and that's more or less all the picture editing I've done in, like, the past year or so, at least that I can recall/find easily on my computer. I had two other categories of fan-things I've done lately I was going to touch on, but it's getting late and I'd like to publish this post now rather than let it drag out and never get published like so many of my other things.

I did have this idea though--I'd like people to potentially be able to find my fan edits via google, and so I think I'll try and make a google-able word list to help lead folks here. IDK if it'll work. It's sort of like tagging things on tumblr, I guess. So, here goes.

So, yeah. Those might help me get found on google, or they might not. They're out there now, anyways. If these did help you find this post, feel free to let me know in the comments! I sound like such an internet person now, asking for comments and whatall. But, you know, these are things I might've liked to find in the course of photohoarding, so I thought it'd be nice to try and make them available to my fellow crazy fanfolk, and my blog readership at large. Enjoy!

Beyond the violet mist, we have for some time partaken of the mysterious and ancient art of fans and of picture editing, and on this day we have brought a selection of our work forth, out into the light of the strange and wondrous Lande of the internet, that they may be enjoyed.
